In 2006 we made a series of short films in partnership with BBC Southern Counties with members of the African community living in Brighton and Hove who were experiencing social isolation and existing on a low income; these included Linos Wengara (below) a talented musician and exile from Zimbabwe who largely survived via busking.
Linos was clear in the value he gained from participating in the project:
“Having your views and life broadcast has given me a real boost. It’s nice to know that someone cares and is interested. It really helps...sometimes you can feel so alone.”
