In 2007 we held a series of workshops with members of the local Chinese community which enabled them to document their social customs and practices. Many local Chinese people had reported feeling frustrated by the stereotyping of the Chinese community they experienced on a daily basis and reported a sense of feeling like an “invisible community.”
They reported a high degree of satisfaction in documenting their own cultural customs, history and experiences and seeing it broadcast in a way which gave them a sense of ownership and achievement.
