“Pengyou” (which means “friends” in Chinese) is an intergenerational community project which brings Chinese young people and elders together for friendship and for mutual learning in a supportive programme of events and activities.
Both elders and youngsters have described feelings of loneliness and cultural isolation living in Brighton and Hove which was the inspiration for our project.
Over the course of summer 2015 we are organising trips and activities to help bring people together in order to combat isolation and to promote friendship between the generations .
In July 215 we were fortunate enough to visit Arundel Wetlands Centre which was a wonderful day out for all involved.
Many of the elders who rarely get the chance to get out talked about how much such outings meant to them, especially activities which are accessible for elders from all ethnic groups as well as those with mobility issues and language barriers. Pengyou is funded by awards for all.
